Saint Martin’s Saints 81, Simon Fraser Red Leafs 73
(Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada) The No. 18 Saint Martin’s Saints Men’s Basketball team went back on the road to visit Simon Fraser Thursday night. The Saints were looking for back-to-back wins and to get one step closer to locking up the GNAC regular season title.
In the first half, Saint Martin’s drilled six three-pointers, but Simon Fraser nailed eight and shot 48% from the floor to take a 41-31 halftime lead. The Saints retaliated with a 50-point second half, shooting 49% from the floor and hitting 13-17 free throws to come from behind and get the win 81-73.
Kaden Hansen dazzled again, leading all scorers with 32 points, including six triples and three free throws to break a 73-73 tie with a minute and a half left. Diego Trejo-Delgado played all 40 minutes and had 21 points on 8-16 shooting, eight rebounds, and four assists. Pablo Navarro contributed 12 points and five rebounds on 5-6 shooting. Jahmarian Forrester had a pivotal role coming off the bench and had eight points and seven rebounds. Saint Martin’s outrebounded Simon Fraser 40-26 and 19-5 on the offensive glass. The Saints dominated downlow, outscoring the Red Leafs 36-16 in points in the paint.
Saint Martin’s jumps up to 19-4 overall and 11-2 in the GNAC. The Saints remain in first place in the conference and hold a two-game advantage over Alaska Anchorage, which sits at 9-4 in conference play. The Saints play Alaska Anchorage in the regular season finale, but could clinch the conference before the teams play with four straight wins. Saint Martin’s heads to Western Washington on Saturday for another crucial conference test.
