Western Washington Vikings 90, #18 Saint Martin’s Saints 81

(Bellingham, WA) The Saint Martin’s Saints Men’s Basketball team went back on the road to visit Western Washington. The Saints were looking to win their third game in a row, all on the road. Saint Martin’s was also looking to get closer to clinching a spot in the GNAC Championships and a first-round bye.

It was a close first half for the majority of the way, but Saint Martin’s pulled in front at the end of the half to lead 43-39 after the first 20 minutes. Western Washington jumped out in front by five points, but Saint Martin’s came back to take a 73-65 lead with six minutes left. Western Washington tied it up at 75 apiece with three minutes to go, but Saint Martin’s quickly took a 78-77 lead a minute later. Western Washington hit some clutch shots late and would win 90-81 over the Saints.

Kaden Hansen continues to impress, as he led Saint Martin’s with 27 points and five assists. Diego Trejo-Delgado had a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Pablo Navarro added 13 points, and Jahmarian Forrester had 10 points and seven rebounds coming off the bench. Western Washington outscored Saint Martin’s in the paint 52-40, which was the only stat that was a glaring difference in the game. Both teams shot similarly, the rebounds were almost even, as were the turnovers.

Saint Martin’s drops to 19-5 on the season and 11-3 in the GNAC. The Saints first place lead has shrunk to just one game over Alaska Anchorage, which is Saint Martin’s last game of the regular season. The Saints host their final regular-season home games, when Northwest Nazarene comes to town on Thursday and Central Washington on Saturday for senior day.
