Saint Martin’s Saints 99, Alaska Nanooks 59

The Saint Martin’s Saints Women’s Basketball team was looking to start a new win streak after a crushing loss in the home finale on Saturday to Central Washington. The Saints travel to Alaska for the final two games of the season, and started the road trip by facing the Nanooks for the second time this year.

Saint Martin’s started the game wonderfully on offense, shooting 5-7 from three-point land and 53% from the floor. The Saints put up 25 points in the opening frame, while limiting Alaska to just 11 for a 14-point lead. The lead grew in the second quarter, as the Saints doubled up Alaska 22-11 while going 7-7 from the foul line. Saint Martin’s led 47-22 at the half. Things continued to roll for the Saints, as they put up their second straight 22-point quarter while holding Alaska to a game-low 10 points. In the fourth, the offenses dazzled on both sides, as Saint Martin’s outscored the Nanooks 30-27 to claim a 99-59 win.

Saint Martin’s had five players in double figures. Leading the way was Jada Travis with 18 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Avery Oaster continued her excellent play, with 17 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Laiken Hill added 13 points with three three-pointers. Kiana Rios filled the stat sheet with 11 points, seven rebounds (six offensive), five assists, and two steals. Kasey Booster got into double figures with 10 points off three made triples and a free throw.

The 99 points is the most the Saints have had in a game all season. Saint Martin’s knocked down 12 three-pointers and shot 49% from the floor. The Saints caused 20 turnovers and outscored Alaska 25-6 in points off turnovers.

Saint Martin’s improves to 17-9 on the season and 13-4 in GNAC action. The Saints are third in the GNAC and will likely remain there for the GNAC Championships next week, meaning they won’t get the Quarterfinal bye as one of the top two teams in the conference.
