1B Boys
Championship Game
(1) Lummi Nation 61, (3) Tulalip Heritage 56
Lummi Nation repeated as 1B boys state champion Saturday night, defeating Tulalip Heritage 61–56 at Spokane Arena. The Blackhawks, who won the title last season, used a stronger second half and a rebounding edge to secure back-to-back championships.
The game was tight throughout. Lummi Nation led 14–11 after the first quarter, Tulalip Heritage answered with a 20-point second quarter to take a 31–26 halftime lead, and the Blackhawks responded after the break by outscoring the Hawks 35–25 in the second half. The game featured nine lead changes and 10 ties, underscoring how closely contested it was.
Jerome Toby led Lummi Nation with 26 points, including 9 of 11 at the free-throw line. Dyson Edwards added 12 points, Landon LaFontaine scored 11 on three 3-pointers, and Chayce Waite-Keller finished with 7 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. The Blackhawks were +11 in the rebound column.
Waite-Keller’s impact was felt most on the defensive end. He had 5 blocked shots, helping disrupt Tulalip Heritage around the rim and changing possessions even beyond the official block total. The senior center, who is headed to Central Washington next season, anchored Lummi Nation’s interior defense in the title game.
Tulalip Heritage was led by Jaylan Gray with 21 points and Tayari Archibald with 15, while Davien Parks added 12 points and 8 rebounds. The Hawks shot slightly better from the field, but Lummi Nation made the difference at the line, going 17 of 23 on free throws compared with 9 of 20 for Tulalip Heritage.
With the victory, Lummi Nation claims its second straight 1B state championship and second in program history, while Tulalip Heritage finishes as state runner-up, their best finish since 2006.
3rd/5th Place Game
(4) Desales 67, (2) Almira-Coulee-Hartline 55
The DeSales Irish closed out their state tournament run with a strong performance Saturday morning at Spokane Arena, defeating Almira-Coulee-Hartline 67–55 to secure third place in the WIAA 1B boys state tournament for the fourth year in a row.
it was a rematch from last year’s state semifinal where ACH came out on top.
DeSales used a big second half to pull away from the Warriors after a competitive opening half. Almira-Coulee-Hartline held a 35–32 lead at halftime, but the Irish responded after the break with a decisive stretch that flipped the game. DeSales outscored the Warriors 19–7 in the third quarter, turning a deficit into a double-digit lead they would not relinquish.
The Irish were led offensively by Spencer Green, who poured in 22 points while knocking down 4 three-pointers. Green’s scoring punch helped fuel the second-half surge that put DeSales firmly in control.
DeSales received strong support from several teammates as well. Maddux Filan added 15 points, connecting on five three-pointers, while Cohen Wood scored 10 points and contributed across the stat sheet with rebounds and defensive presence. Malachi Raymond added 12 points and eight rebounds, providing key production inside.
Almira-Coulee-Hartline was paced by Nolan Grindry, who scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Max Grindry added 18 points for the Warriors, while Tucker Bayless chipped in 7 points.
Despite the Warriors’ strong start, DeSales’ defensive pressure and efficient shooting in the third quarter created the separation needed to close out the victory.
With the win, DeSales finishes the season with a third-place trophy at the WIAA 1B state tournament, while Almira-Coulee-Hartline ends the tournament in fifth place after a hard-fought run in Spokane.
4th/6th Place Game

The team reached the hardware match after navigating the earlier rounds with two close victories and the program made the most of the opportunity by fighting through the consolation bracket to claim a fourth-place trophy.
Liberty Christian’s run to Spokane also marked an important milestone for the Patriots. The appearance was the program’s third trip to the state tournament since 2016, and the sixth-place finish represents their first state tournament hardware since 2010.

Championship Game
(5) Cle Elum-Roslyn 49, (4) Reardan 43
Cle Elum-Roslyn added another chapter to its program’s rich basketball history Saturday, defeating Reardan 49–43 to win the WIAA 2B girls state championship at Spokane Arena.
The fifth-seeded Warriors relied on balanced scoring and timely defense to secure the title, their first at the 2B level, first since 1993, and the program’s sixth overall state championship.
Senior Gracie Glondo led the Warriors with 22 points and eight rebounds, while junior Nellie Nicholls added 21 points and 14 rebound, continuing a strong stretch at the Arena in which she totaled 81 points across the final three tournament games.
The game remained tight for most of the first half as Reardan slowed the pace and forced Cle Elum-Roslyn into a half-court battle. The Screaming Eagles stayed within reach behind a gritty effort from Chasyn Waters, who finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and five steals, frequently diving for loose balls and battling in the paint.
Reardan’s defense kept the Warriors from pulling away early, but Cle Elum-Roslyn’s depth and free-throw shooting proved crucial. Nicholls converted nine free throws, and the Warriors consistently found scoring from multiple players when the defense focused on stopping their primary options.
Reardan also received eight points and 11 rebounds from Tenice Waters, but the Screaming Eagles struggled to find consistent offense late as the Warriors tightened their defense in the final minutes.
For Cle Elum-Roslyn, the championship represented both a return to prominence and a tribute to the program’s long tradition.
With the win, Cle Elum-Roslyn finishes the season 24-5 as the 2B state champion, while Reardan closes its season 23-6 as the state runner-up, earning another trophy after finishing fifth at last year’s tournament.

The Bulldogs finished the year 29–0, securing their second state title in three seasons and completing another undefeated campaign for the program.

The championship carried deeper meaning for the Bulldogs program beyond the perfect record. Colfax played the season in memory of longtime head coach Reece Jenkin, who passed away. Jenkin had guided the Bulldogs to multiple successful seasons, including the program’s 2024 state championship, and was widely respected across Washington small-school basketball. (4) Reardan 52, (3) Brewster 38
She played both sides very well. Key player for moving the ball around the arc and into the paint for post plays. Put up 11-14 points by herself. One crucial player was in the second half when she missed her last free throw, got her own rebound, was getting pressured on the near side line from Paige Wulf, and in a high-IQ basketball moment, bounced it off Wulf’s leg to make it out of bounds on Brewster. This set up her team for another offensive possession and allowed them to score and gain momentum. Reardan will play tomorrow against Davenport (#9 seat) on game 16 at 2:00 pm. Brewster moves down to the constellation bracket against Northwest Christian (#2 seat) on game 18 at 10:30 am.
