SEATTLE, WASH
Nathan MacKinnon accounted for a goal and three assists as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Seattle Kraken 5-1. Martin Necas, Nazem Kadri, Nicholas Roy, and Joel Kiviranta also scored for the Avs with Scott Wedgewood making 29 saves on 30 shots in the Avalanche win. Seattle saw a shorthanded goal from Ryker Evans in the loss with Kraken goaltenders Joey Daccord and Philipp Grubauer combining for 21 saves on 26 shots.
Nathan MacKinnon set up Martin Necas for the opening goal at 3:45 of the first. Nathan MacKinnon at 12:54 found a goal of his own, by banking a centering pass off Adam Larsson’s skate to give the Avs a 2-0 lead. Late in the period, Seattle captain Jordan Eberle was accessed a double minor for high sticking Martin Necas. Nicholas Roy buried a tap in power play goal at 18:48 of the first to hand the Avs a 3-0 lead. Colorado outshot Seattle 15-8 in the opening period. Philipp Grubauer replaced Joey Daccord after making 12 saves on 15 Avalanche shots.
Ryker Evans broke the ice for Seattle with a shorthanded goal at 13:36 of the second period to trim the deficit to 3-1. Chandler Stephenson was credited with the lone assist. Nazem Kadri scored his first goal since his return to the Avalanche with a tip in from a Sam Malinski shot at 17:11. Seattle outshot Colorado 12-5 in period two.
Joel Kiviranta added a fifth Colorado goal on a deflection 12:41 to close out the scoring.
The night for the Kraken was defined by how they started the game in the opening period. Head Coach Lane Lambert when asked about what he saw from his team in the first period said, “dipped our toe in the water to see what it was going to be all about…unacceptable…you can’t spot that team that many goals. We got to wake up.” When asked about where the swag meter was for the team Lambert, quipped, “low”.
Seattle with the loss drops their fourth game in a row. They sit one point behind San Jose for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference after the Sharks defeated the Boston Bruins 4-2.
The Kraken look to return to winning note on Saturday on the road against the Vancouver Canucks.
