Aberdeen 2, WF West 0

(Chehalis, WA) The EVCO 2A began league play Tuesday night and the Aberdeen Bobcats came in as one of the hottest teams in the state at 5-0. The Bobcats had two wins over 3A Kelso and Mountain View along with wins over Hoquiam, Elma and Foss. Aberdeen came in scoring 21 goals while giving up just 6.

The hosts Wf West started the night 3-1 with wins over 3A River Ridge, Prairie and Evergreen with their lone loss to 3A Mountain View. The Bearcats had scored 8 goals while giving up 7.

The two teams battled to a scoreless tie until the 29th minute when Aberdeen’s Gonzalo Blanes settled a pass in the 18 yard box turned and fired for the 1-0 Bobcat lead. WF West keeper River Haydon made a great save in the 35th minute to keep it just a one score game in the first half.

Aberdeen didn’t take as much time to put in a second goal scoring in the 45th minute. It was Blanes again this time with a low shot just inside the far post. That would be the final goal of the match as both defenses made big playes in the second half. Both goalkeepers Grady Osina for Aberdeen and River Haydon of WF West made some tough saves to keep the game close.

Thorbeckes MVP

The Thorbeckes MVP went to Aberdeen’s Gonzalo Blanes for this brace and overall play in the match. Blanes got the nod over Grady Osina the Bobcat keeper who completed the shutout.

Aberdeen is now 1-0 in league play and 6-0 overall. The Bobcats will host Black Hills Friday night. WF West drops to 0-1 and 3-2 for the season. The Bearcats are home again on Friday against Shelton.
