(Seattle, WA) Some Seahawk fans have been a little concerned that General Manager John Schneider hasn’t been out spending millions in free agency and maybe let some players go to other teams that he could have kept in the building.

Despite having a top 5 under the cap bank account going into free agency, Schneider has been pretty frugal allowing Kenneth Walker III to sign with Kansas City and several pieces of the dominating defense leave the NW, he knew all along there were going to be at least a couple of big time purchases he was going to have to make. He wasn’t shopping for a good 2nd car or a safe vehicle for his kids, Schneider knew he was in the market for a Lamborghini or a Rolls or Bentley.

He locked down his first big one on Monday when he signed Jaxson Smith-Njigba to the largest wide receiver contract in NFL history. A 4-year, just shy of 170-million dollar contract extension.

If this was the one big contract Schneider had to deal with it would have been much easier but he’s got another one. Cornerback Devon Witherspoon is one of the best if not THEE best corners in the league. The LA Rams just set the bar for corners as well when they signed an extension with their new corner they just got from Kansas City in a trade, Trent McDuffie to a 4-year extension at 31-million per year.

There’s no doubt the minimum it will take to sign Witherspoon will be 31-million and a dollar which is still a 125-million dollar deal and his agent will likely be pressing for more. The Hawks do have a wild card here though as they picked up his 5th year option giving them more time to figure out a deal if they need too. However, the longer you wait and if Witherspoon has another exceptional year and why wouldn’t he, he’s had 3 in a row already, then that price is only going to go up.

Schneider has been relatively quiet in free agency for multiple reasons, first he didn’t need to panic buy or over spend on positions that are setting to be strong positions in the draft like running back. And he knew this payday was going to happen for two of his key players.

This is where the GM makes his money and so far he has 2 World Championships and as we all know should be his 3rd. We’ll trust J-S!
