Today, 15-time major champion Tiger Woods was arrested in Jupiter Island, Florida, after his Range Rover clipped a trailer on a truck and rolled over around 2 PM EST. Woods has been charged with DUI, property damage, and refusal to submit a lawful test. Woods did cooperate to do a breathalyzer test, but would not provide a urinalysis test. Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said in a press conference that Woods was careful with his words and what he told the authorities. He also said that Woods, after the crash, got out on his own on the passenger’s side of the vehicle, as his vehicle came to a rest on the driver’s side. Sheriff Budensiek said there were no other passengers in Woods’ vehicle at the time of the crash.

Per Florida law, the conditions for the release of persons arrested for DUI are that a person’s blood alcohol level is below 0.05, which his breathalyzer test was 0.00, the person is no longer under the influence the person’s normal faculties are no longer impaired, and eight hours have elapsed from the time the person was arrested. Woods is currently in jail, as at the time of this article, eight hours have not elapsed from his arrest for DUI. Also, per Florida law, any person who causes property damage or personal injury to another while driving under the influence is guilty of a first-degree misdemeanor (not more than a $1,000 fine or one year of imprisonment). As part of “Trenton’s Law”, which became effective in Florida on October 1, 2025, refusal to submit to lawful test of breath or urine subsequent to a DUI arrest is a second-degree misdemeanor. The penalties include a suspension of license for one year, and second-degree misdemeanors in Florida are punishable by up to 60 days of jail time and a $500 fine.

Woods was arrested for DUI in 2017 after he was found asleep in his car on the side of the road in Florida. There was no alcohol involved in that arrest, similar to today, however a large amount of painkillers were found in his system. In 2021, Woods suffered a near-fatal accident in Los Angeles when his car flipped and rolled over numerous times. According to the Los Angeles County Police Department, his car was traveling at 75 miles per hour when it struck a tree. In 2009, Woods was cited for careless driving after crashing his SUV into a fire hydrant and a tree outside of his home in Florida.

On Tuesday, Woods played in the TGL Finals, playing for his team, Jupiter Links GC. Woods was hinting at making an attempt to tee it up at the Masters in two weeks, but didn’t definitively share the nature of his plans. Woods had registered for the 2026 U.S. Senior Open to secure his eligibility to play, but hadn’t committed to playing in the Championship, which would be his first senior major. There has been no word up to this point from Woods or his camp on what his status will be for next month’s Masters.
