Tumwater 43, Fife 42

(Tumwater, WA) The visiting Fife Trojans and the home team Tumwater T-Birds were both undefeated, a combined 5-0 which meant something would have to give on this night. The young Trojans with just 2 Senior’s on their team would jump out to a lead led by junior guard Christina Willis. Willis would knock down 12 1st half points including 2 long balls. She would be assisted by Courtney Morton who scored all 8 of her points in the 1st half as Fife led at the break 28-21.

Tumwater stayed in the game behind the offense of Sierra Snyder who scored 13 of the T-Birds 21 points with 2 3-pointers. Madison Fields scored 4 and the T-Birds played solid defense with Brooke Hare and Katie Cunningham off the bench.

Tumwater would cut into that 7 point deficit outscoring the Trojans 12-7 to trail by 2 35-33. The strong defense held up in the 4th quarter again limiting Fife to just 7 points. Brooke Hare after going ofer in the 1st half heated up draining 7 but was more dominate on defense with at least 5 2nd half blocks, including a back to back block in the Fife paint. Snyder struggled offensively but her defense was tough and she handled the ball for the Birds expecially late in the game when they had a lead.

The T-Birds would take the lead for good at the 1:22 mark on a beautiful 16-foot jumper from Maddie Fields with a defender in her face, nothing but net giving Tumwater a 41-39 lead. On the next trip down Fields would be fouled and she drained both giving Tumwater a 4-point lead with 1:05 to play.

Fife wasn’t finished and made a run led by Willis who would be fouled with 44-seconds to play but missed the 1st shot and hit the 2nd making it a 3-point game. After a Tumwater turnover Willis took the loose ball and headed up the floor and fired a shot from the outside which she backed in but she was inside the 3 point line leaving them still a point short with 12-seconds to go. Fife would foul and send Snyder to the line where she missed both and Willis raced to the other end of the floor putting up a shot that was off the mark as time expired.

Tumwater improved to 3-0 while Fife dropped to 3-1. Our Tommy Lowe of Greene Realty Players of the Game went to Tumwater’s Sierra Snyder and Fife’s Christina Willis. The ProActive Play of the Game went to Maddie Fields’ clutch jumper giving the T-Birds the lead for good.
