Montesano 4, Tenino 0

(Montesano, WA) The Tenino Beavers took Jack Rottle Field in Montesano 4-6-1 overall with a 2-2 league record and off of a 2-1 win over Eatonville. Montesano came in 10-1 overall and a 5-0 EVCO 1A play.

The Beavers knew coming into the game that they had to hold off a high powered Montesano offense. They did a good job of slowing down the Bulldogs with big saves by goalkeeper Trinity Tafoya and some timely clearances from defenders Kaycee Jones, MJ Gallwas and Chloe Grayless. Montesano would break through in the 21′ minute when Mikayla Stanfield made a run down the sideline and hit a perfect cross to Sam Roundtree who had just come in as a reserve.

Tenino’s defense would hold off Monte for the rest of the half with Tafoya making spectacular saves in stoppage time to keep it 1-0 at halftime. Montesano ended the half with three corners and six shots on frame.

The Bulldogs didn’t need as much time to score in the 2nd half when Beth Henderson hit a beauty of a freekick in the 43rd minute just under the crossbar over the outstretched hands of Tafoya. Mikayla Stanfield would strike just 6 minutes later with a shot just outside of the 18 yard box making it 3-0 Montesano in the 49th.

The best chance for the Beavers came on a Kami Oliviera and Nicole Fralick making a run up the field firing a hard shot that Monte keeper Riley Timmons would smother it maintaining her clean sheet for the game. Henderson and Stanfield would connect one more time but this time it was Beth to Mikayla in the 73′ for the 4-0 lead and final score.

Montesano is now 6-0 in league play with Eatonville in town next week. Tenino falls to 2-3 in league and hosting (4-1) Elma next week. Bethanie Henderson is our Thorbeckes game MVP with her freekick goal and assist in the game.
