(Tacoma, WA)

Many high school conferences and leagues in the state of Washington have already wrapped up the conference season and are now focused on postseason runs through district tournaments, but the 1A Nisqually League has two more nights of basketball action before districts and Eli Sports Network and NFHS is making their first appearance at one of those schools.

On Tuesday night, the Life Christian Academy Eagles of Tacoma host the Cascade Christian Cougars on Senior night for both of the Eagles girl’s and boys’ basketball programs.

The girl’s game will be at 5:45 at the Life Christian Academy gym and features the LCA Eagles (11-4 overall, 11-3 Nisqually League) and the Cougars of Cascade Christian (8-11 overall, 7-8 Nisqually League) Players to watch in this one is LCA’s Josie Ryder who is one of the top scorers in the Nisqually with over 12 PPG, and Freshman Jennica Walling who averages just over 10 PPG as a freshman.

On January 10, both of the teams fought a tightly contested game as the Eagles edged the Cougars in Puyallup 36-29 in a defensive battle. Life Christian is playing some of their best basketball late in the season as they have won five straight games, including a 51-36 home victory over Klahowya at home on Friday.

Life Christian girls’ basketball Head Coach Joseph Lawyer told ESN that his team his team is in “playoff mode,” and that the goal of the team is to make a run in the district tournament despite losing a coin flip this week with Annie Wright for the 2nd seed out of the Nisqually League to put the Eagles in third place in the league.  “This group is hungry they have a chip on their shoulder,” Lawyer said.

The Cougars saw their two-game winning streak snapped against Seattle Christian in a 40-16 loss on Friday and are looking to end the season strong by spoiling the Eagles senior night.

On the boy’s side, both the Cougars and the Eagles have very similar overall records with Cascade Christian 10-9 overall and Life Christian 9-9 overall. However, Life Christian holds a 9-5 record in Nisqually League play and Cascade Christian is 7-8 in league play.  Like the girls contest, their last meeting was close, but even closer as LCA snuck by Cascade Christian 60-58 in Puyallup. These next two games are critical for the Eagles because they not only face a formidable opponent in the Cougars who are 5th in the Nisqually League, but LCA also travels to Vashon Island on Thursday who 2nd in the league.
