The Utah NHL franchise officially announced their new nickname, as the “Mammoth”. The club additionally unveiled a new logo to cement the once uncertain identity of the franchise in Utah.

Since the franchise began after the selling of the Arizona Coyotes, Utah sought to find a new name for the franchise. An online poll that had 850,000 people vote had an overwhelming favorite. The results of the vote were not released, but Mammoth was said to be the clear favorite.

Utah Owner Ryan Smith lauded the community in making the decision. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said in the press conference, “When you win the Stanley Cup, I hope I am still doing this to present it.” Bettman also remarked the league is scoping the region for a possible outdoor game in Utah.

The original name of the Utah Hockey Club is now a footnote in history. But for the Utah NHL franchise, there is a new identity that can be described purely as “Mammoth”.
