(Bremerton, WA) One of the Regional sites of the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Tournament took place in Bremerton at Gold Mountain Golf Club. 14 teams and five individuals competed in the Regional, with the top five teams and the top individual not from an advancing team at each Regional moving on to the NCAA DI Men’s Golf National Championship in California later this month. The University of Washington was the host school for this Regional.

In the team competition, the Florida Gators edged the Arizona State Sun Devils by three shots. Florida’s three-day total of 836, 28-under, bettered Arizona State’s 839, 25-under. Both teams were duking it out for the top spot as they each pulled away from the rest of the field. The Colorado Buffaloes took third with a three-day total of 860, 4-under. South Florida finished fourth with a team total of 862, 2-under. South Carolina beat out Utah by one shot, with the Gamecocks at 864, even while the Utes were at 865, 1-over. Utah’s comeback fell just short, as they were 7-under in the final round, while South Carolina was 2-over. USF was 10-under in the final round to jump up into the fourth spot. Florida, Arizona State, Colorado, South Florida, and South Carolina will all head to the NCAA National Championship in Arizona, played May 23-28.

For the individual competition, Braxton Watts from Utah won medalist honors, going 12-under in the three rounds. Watts started the week with an even par 72 before firing back-to-back 66s. Watts started the second round with four birdies in a row and birdied five of the first six holes. Watts will also be heading to California to compete in the NCAA National Championship in the individual tournament. Watts is ranked 252nd in the WAGR (World Amateur Golf Ranking) and is a senior. This is the second straight year Watts has made the individual tournament and finished T-35.
