The Heritage Timberwolves for the first time in school history win the District Championship defeating Central Kitsap 3-1. Omar Ramirez scored the first and last goals while Aldo Herrera-Malvaez scored the eventual game winning goal for Heritage. Wyatt Bell scored the lone goal for Central Kitsap in the defeat.
The match pinned two teams reaching the district championship in opposite paths. Central Kitsap won the District Championship last season as the #1 seed winning all three matches past regulation. This year’s Central Kitsap team ousted the #2 seed Auburn Mountainview and #3 seed Bellarmine to make the final as a #7 seed. Heritage made the final thanks to a pair of 1-0 wins over #4 Gig Harbor and #1 Silas. The Timberwolves with their win against Gig Harbor booked their first trip to state for the first time in school history. Central Kitsap hoped to win back to back district titles for the first time in school history.
Central Kitsap started Tyler Adams in goal and Heritage started Jackson Graham in the first half.
Heritage had not allowed a goal in their last seven games. Central Kitsap pressed in the early stages of the first half. Wyatt Bell in the 18th minute tipped in the opening goal of the match to put the Cougars in front. Central Kitsap had a multitude of chances in the opening 20 minutes. However, Heritage responded.
Off a corner, Omar Ramirez buried a loose rebound to tie the match in the 23rd minute. Minutes later, Aldo Herrera-Malvaez sprung loose on a breakaway scored to tilt the axis of the contest. The goal in the 25th minute gave the fifth seed Heritage side the lead. Halftime entailed Heritage in front 2-1 into the locker room.
Eli Schwenker replaced Jackson Graham in goal for Heritage for the second half. The defending of Heritage flexed its muscle throughout period two. In the closing seconds, Omar Ramirez iced the game chipping a shot over the Central Kitsap keeper for the insurance tally. Moments later, Heritage cemented their first ever crown as District Champions.
The win marks the first district championship in school history after clinching their first trip to State in school history.
