5/18/2025

(Auburn, WA) Day 6 of the 2025 season and the influx of horses from Northern California and Turf Paradise is now beginning to really show at the starting gates. There were 59 that ran on Saturday, that’s 7.4 per race average and 71 for 9 races on Sunday for a 7.9 average and for the weekend 7.6. Last year the season average was 6.4 and that number stayed between 5.9 and 6.5 for the entire season.

Saturday also saw our first off-track of the season with races 1 and 2 sloppy and then 3-8 wet-fast. Last year there were only 4 days of non-fast tracks. On Sunday the sun was out and a breeze dried the track out quickly and was fast.

Manny Americano won 4 races on the day matching Alex Cruz’s 4 win day on Saturday. Two time defending training champ Justin Evans started his first runners of the year and finished 1-2 to start his season at Emerald with a training exacta.

The bettors showed as well as they wagered $1,597,221 for an average of $177,469 per race.

It was also the final day of the Teachers Appreciation Weekend. There was a school mascot race followed by the the men’s and women’s teacher races.

Be sure to check out “The Track Wire” on Wednesday for more news and notes from this weekend’s racing and Teacher’s Dash. Let’s get to Sunday’s card.

8th and Feature Race The Bud Light Purse
In the feature race the field of 8 went the flat mile and Club Mesquite with Kevin Krigger was bet down to 6-5 favoritism. At the break 6-1 Hey Batman with Jose Rodriguez went straight to the front from the rail. Fantastic Dream with Pablo Castillo at 26-1 went with Hey Batman while Club Mesquite sat in 3rd from the outside around the 1st turn.

I’m Noble w/ Manny Americano

Down the back stretch Hey Batman slipped away and drew out to a 3-4 length lead while setting fractions 23.52 and 46.52 as they headed into the far turn. Club Mesquite began to stir and started after the leader as did 7-2 I’m Noble and Manny Americano. At the 1/8th pole Hey Batman still had the lead but was beginning to tire as Club Mesquite got first run and collared Hey Batman about the 16th pole.

However, Club Mesquite had no answer as Americano and I’m Noble uncorked a huge rally to run down the favorite going away to win easily in a final time of 1:36.26. Hey Batman held on for 3rd and Fantastic Dream finished 4th.

I’m Noble races for Rusty George Warwick and trained by Joe Toye. This was Toye’s 1st start of the meeting and is a perfect 1 for 1. The 4-year-old gelding I’m Noble earned his 5th career win and is now 5-7-3 for a win percent of 20% and 60% in the top 3 while pushing his bankroll to more than $87,000.

9th Race
There was a solid field of 9 lined up for the finale but the bettrors were not fooled as they had co-8-5 favorites in Red Leader and Dominate. Dominate with Alex Cruz ended up being the slight favorite. It was just a 5-furlong spring and Red Leader with Manny Amricano exploded out of the gate and quickly separated from 2nd place Dominate by 2 1/2-lengths.

Red Leader

Red Leader set soft fractions of 22.16 and slowed it to 45.50 at the halfmile leaving plenty for the stretch. Cruz and Dominate waited patiently for Red Leader to come back to them but there was no reversing Red Leader finishing the weekend with a dominating 4 length win in a final time of 57.42. Dominate was clearly second bet while 24-1 Fly By John and Carlos Montalvo got up for 3rd, 9-1 Gran Senor Del Oro and Kevin Krigger at 9-1 was 4th and completing the Super High 5 was 14-1 Little Boy Lute and Juan Gutierrez.
