(Puyallup, WA) The #13 Lake Stevens Vikings came to Sparks Stadium trying to find the same magic the now State Champion girls program did in the fall. The host Puyallup Viking had to shake off an overtime loss in the district 3/4 playoffs. The Viking from Lake Stevens struck first on a long throw-in by Lucas Mooring that was headed home by George Meadows Morrice 8 minutes into the match. Lake Stevens senior keeper Brayden Zakimi was a brick wall in the first half with 7 saves and kept an aggressive Puyallup offense at bay.  The first half ended with a 1-0 Lake Stevens lead.

The Puyallup offense was just as aggressive at the start of the 2nd half. Puyallup’s Coleman Farmer earned the first penalty kick opportunity in the 47th on a nice run down the goal line. Curran Caufield took the PK but sent it sailing over the crossbar. In the 65th minute Farmer was at it again showing off his footwork and dribbling skills when he was taken down in the penalty area. With Caufield out with an injury sophomore Seth Foster stepped up and buried the shot to even the score at 1. Each team had their chances but at the end of regulation the score remained tied at 1-1.

Early in the 1st overtime it was Puyallup keeper Alexis Cruz Hernandez that made a spectacular save to keep his team’s season alive. The Puyallup Vikings had the first possession of the 2nd overtime period and didn’t waste time. Less than 30 seconds into senior Zack Robertson sent a perfect pass up the field to Robert Safin who let the ball bounce once in the 18 yard box before volleying it home to end the game.

Coleman Farmer was named our Thorbeckes MVP for his relentless play throughout the game. Puyallup will play Hazen on Saturday April 24th. Lake Stevens season comes to an end at 13-6.
