This week, the 80th U.S. Women’s Open Championship will take place at Erin Hills in Erin, Wisconsin, for the first time ever. The course will be playing at roughly 6,800 yards, with 156 players participating. This year, 1,904 entries were accepted, which is the second most in the Championship’s history.

Last year, Yuka Saso won her second U.S. Women’s Open Championship at Lancaster (Pa.) Country Club. In 2021, Saso won at The Olympic Club in San Francisco. The first U.S. Women’s Open took place in Spokane at Spokane Country Club, where Patty Berg won 5&4.

Jeeno Thitikul from Thailand is the favorite this week to win the Championship. Thitikul has five wins on the LPGA, but the 22-year-old is still searching for her first major. Thitikul finished T-6 at the U.S. Women’s Open last year and T-24 at the Chevron Championship earlier this year.

World #1, Nelly Korda, is also one of the favorites to win her first U.S. Women’s Open. Korda won the 2021 Women’s PGA Championship and the 2024 Chevron Championship, but struggled at last year’s U.S. Women’s Open by missing the cut. Korda’s best finish at the U.S. Open is T-8, and she hasn’t won a tournament on the LPGA this season.

Mao Saigo from Japan won the Chevron Championship last month in a wild playoff. There were five players in the playoff, after Ariya Jutanugarn had a one-shot lead going into the 18th hole, but hit a chip shot maybe three inches and made bogey to force the playoff.
