(Kennewick, WA) The Washington Men’s Amateur Championship holds five qualifiers across the state to determine the field. The third qualifier was held at Canyon Lakes Golf Course, where 13 golfers made the cut to play at the Washington Men’s Amateur Championship, held later this month at Bear Creek Country Club in Woodinville.
Kris Martonik from Kennewick was the only player to break 70, shooting a 4-under 68. Martonik was even through 10 holes, but finished with five birdies and a bogey in his final eight holes to shoot 4-under, 32 on the back nine. Spencer Ellis from Wenatchee was the only other player under par, shooting a 1-under 71 to take solo second place. Ellis birdied two of the last three holes to finish under par. Kalib Knutson from Chehalis and Kevin Toon from Walla Walla were each at even par with matching 72s to tie for third.
Joel Martinez from Pasco was solo fifth with a 1-over 73. Yuji Cusick from Chicago, Illinois, Apollos Morris from Kennewick, and Tommy Vonghalath from Kennewick all shot 2-over and tied for sixth. Tied for ninth were Todd Tabor from Kelso, Evan Johnson from Richland, Kaedon Smith from Richland, and Zachary Anderson from Lewiston, Idaho, as the quartet shot 3-over 75s. Tj Murdock from Othello was 13th and shot 4-over to secure the final spot in the Championship from this site.
Pierson Kloster from Yakima is the first alternate after a 4-over 76. The second alternate is Dylan Stensland from Richland, who shot 5-over 77. The third alternate is Wyatt Hansen from Pasco, and the fourth alternate is Brad Hansen from Yakima, both shooting 5-over 77s.
