(Port Orchard, WA) The USGA held a 2026 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Qualifier at McCormick Woods Golf Club. Only two spots were available for the field to advance to the championship, which takes place next May in New Jersey.
The medalists were Nigel Lett from Tualatin, Oregon, and Taylor Klopp from Vancouver. The pair shot a seven-under 65 to narrowly edge four sides at six-under. The duo birdied the second, fourth, fifth, and ninth holes on the front nine. They birdied 10, eagled 12, and birdied the 13th, with their lone blemish of the day coming with a bogey on 15.
Tyler Kanda and Zach Strong from Olympia were the pair out of the group at six-under that will advance to next May’s championship. They birdied the second, bogeyed four, birdied six and nine to go out in two-under. They birdied 10, 12, eagled 13, birdied 14, doubled the 15th, and birdied 18 to get to six-under.
Bjorn Bjorke from Port Orchard and Sean Packer from Normandy Park are the first alternates, and Colten Kleis from Seattle and Mark Strickland from Snohomish are the second alternates.
The 10th hole played as the easiest hole on the day. The 496-yard par five saw an eagle and 37 birdies, which were the most birdies of any hole on the day. The par five played 0.3 under par on the day, and nearly two tenths of a stroke easier than the ninth hole, which was the second easiest hole of the day. The hardest hole was the closing hole, the 18th, a 442-yard par four. The hole played 0.73 strokes over par on average, and saw just three birdies. The front nine was easier than the back nine, with an average score of 37.39, whereas the back nine saw a scoring average of 37.92, despite more birdies and eagles being recorded on the back.
