(Seattle, WA) The Seattle U Redhawks came into the match with UNLV with a 3-0-3 record and a 2 game win streak. The Rebels came into the match at 2-4-1 and on a 2 game win streak of their own.

The Redhawks controlled the tempo early and put the Rebels on their heels. Sixteen minutes in that control led to a goal. Marla Gaudlitz took a shot at goal that got deflected right to U’i Kaaihue who ripped a shot past the keeper for her first goal of the season. 

Just 3 minutes later Kaaihue picked up an assist off a corner kick. The corner found the head of Caroline Penner who sent it down and towards goal but deflected off the hip of Kailee Wilson for the 2-0 Redhawk lead. 

Those were the only goals of the first half but not from lack of trying. The Redhawks took 11 shots with 4 on target and 3 corners. The Rebels got off 2 shots with one on frame.

The RedHawks continued their offensive pressure after the halftime break. In the 81st minute Zoe Hopkins sent a pass across the field to Caroline Penner whos shot from just inside the 18 yard box dropped perfectly over the Rebel keepers hand for the 3-0 lead.

The crowd got a sense of deja vu 4 minutes later when Marla Gaudlitz found Penner in the same area. The first touch by Penner got by a hard charging defender the second touch just a few inches from where she just scored got the same result skimming off the underside the crossbar and in the net for the 4-0 victory and her 25th goal of the season. 

In the end the Redhawks took 8 corners and had 20 shots with 7 of those on frame. The Rebels took 4 shots with 2 on frame.

The clean sheet by Seattle U keeper Kassidy Kirgan moves her into a tie for 3rd most wins all time (24) with Madison Waguespack.

The Women’s team travels to Cal Poly for a match on Sunday.
