(Tumwater, WA) Both teams came into the match with a 1-0 EVCO 2A record. WF West got a league win over Black Hills and came into the match with a 5-0-1 record. Tumwater beat Aberdeen in their first league match and had a 2-3-1 overall record.

The Thunderbirds struck early on a corner kick just 3 minutes into the match. Cassidy Hedin took the corner and found the foot of freshman Brynn Carson for the early lead.
Tumwater led a pressure-filled, high tempo first half that had them with a majority of the possession on the Bearcats side of the field.
Tumwater added a second goal in the 25th minute. A pass in from the wing took a slight deflection and ended up at the foot of Sophie Boatright who fired a shot into the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.
The bright spot for the Bearcats in the first half was the stellar keeper play of Charlee Nelson. Yes 2 got by her but she had 7 saves in the first half and stepped up big when her team needed her.
Halftime Tumwater 2 WF West 0
WF West came out of halftime looking like a reenergized team. Senior Reese Mishler and Wyatt Rogerson settled the team and the Bearcats played more composed.
The 2nd half was played much more even with The Bearcats and T-Birds playing a lot in between the 30s.
Tumwaters defensive back line Jenna Graves, Chloe Foos, Jenna Larson and Juliette Cash didn’t allow a single shot on goal.
When the final whistle blew Tumwater and new head coach Abbey Bergquist found themselves 2-0 in EVCO 2A play. In fact the T-Birds are undefeated in league play for quite a while their last league loss was back in 2017.
MVP and UP Next
The Thorbeckes MVP went to Tumwater’s Sophie Boatright for the game sealing goal and overall dominance in the middle of the field all game long. The T-Birds got big contributions up top from Brielle Clark, Kayla Pope and Cassidy Hedin.
The Bearcats keeper Charlee Nelson played great, ending the match with 11 saves. Ashlen Gruginski and Reese Mishler played well in the midfield and Violet Ratke played tough defense all game.
Tumwater is now 2-0 in league and 3-3-1 overall and travels to Shelton on October 2nd. WF West suffered their first loss of the season and now sit at 1-1 in league and 5-1-1 overall and host Aberdeen also on the 2nd.
