(Napavine, WA) The Napavine Tigers were hoping to shed their early season struggles against rival Adna on Friday night but that didn’t happen. In fact, the Pirates rolled to an easy 28-12 win. Adna racked up 311 total offensive yards with a well balanced attack of 139 through the air and 172 on the ground.
Napavine wasn’t far behind with 277 total yards but 0 through the air and all on the ground. The Pirates let the Tigers run between the 20’s but only let 2 get into the endzone and that was taking a 28-6 lead.
The Pirates QB Trevin Salme threw for 139 yards and a touchdown. He also spread the ball around with Cash Smith hauling in 2 catches for 42 yards and a TD, Kanne Kephart had 4 catches for 43 yards, Oryn Nelson 2 for 28 and Grayson Humphrey had 1 catch for 26 yards.
Leading the Adna rushing attack was Naillon Ramirez with 14 carries for 126 yards and a score. Beau Miller carried the rock 112 times for 42 yards and TD and Salme had a QB sneak for 3 yards and a TD.
The Pirates defense was certainly allowing the Tigers to rack up rushing yardage but they were overwhelming in other areas pitching the shut out in the passing game and came up with a couple of huge plays on punts setting up a TD and forcing a safety.
Napavine got a huge night from Caleb Von Pressenton with 22 carries, 188 yards and a touchdown. Dean Hamilton was also tough to bring down with 11 carries and 72 yards with the other score.
In the end it wasn’t enough as the Pirate defense continually came up with big plays and were led by Jackson Knittle. Knittle earned our Thorbeckes MVP of the game award for his continued harassment of the Adna offense especially between the tackles and his work on the offensive line for the Pirates.
Adna improves to 2-1 in Central 2B league play and 3-2 overall. The Pirates will host Forks next Friday. Napavine drops to 0-1 in conference play and 1-4 for the season. The Tigers will host Raymond-South Bend next Friday hoping to turn their season around.
