Napavine 2, Onalaska 0

(Napavine, WA) A big Central 2B matchup took place in Napavine as the Tigers went head-to-head with the Onalaska Loggers. Onalaska, coming into this game, was on a dominant 7-game win streak, not allowing a goal in the league all season. They reigned in first place in the Central 2B conference with blowout win after blowout win. Napavine entered the game 6-4-2 and ranked fourth in the league. However, they handed  Onalaska a loss earlier in the season and knew they had the capabilities to do it again. A back-and-forth battle to the end was bound to occur, and the result did not disappoint.

First Half

The first half was a pure defensive battle for both teams. Neither getting the upper hand nor allowing the other’s offense to get going. Each team had a couple of opportunities throughout the first half, but not much could get ignited. Both goalkeepers, Taylen Evander for Napavine and Emily Hicks for Onalaska, did not have much traction coming their way as they usually do. Anytime the ball would get around the 18, whichever team was on defense swarmed to the ball and either cleared it or stole it right back. Kaiyah Sandridge for Onalaska controlled the pace of the Loggers, and the offense ran through her. She had a good shot on goal but wasn’t successful, as well as two great passes that gave Onalaska a chance to score. They could not capitalize, however. Hayden Kaut and Hannah Fay were the offensive force for the Tigers, as well as playing great defense. Neither team could execute before half, and the Tigers and Loggers went into halftime tied 0-0.

Second Half

Napavine flipped a switch in the second half  ad came out very aggressive. They were hunting the ball and looking for a shot wherever they could get it. Hayden Kaut, Briley Fay, and Hannah Fay were leading the cause and kept the ball in Napavine’s possession for most of the half. The defense mixed with the added offensive pressure gave Onalaska little opportunity to get something going. The first goal of the game came from Hayden Kaut on a massive kick from about 30 yards away in the 51st minute. She delivered a perfectly placed and precise strike right over the head of goalie Emily Hicks to get Napavine on the board. The Tigers did not let up and agai kept the ball in their hands and controlled the pace on their terms. As time was expiring Jenna Gallagher would be fed a great pass from Kaut and be left one on one at in the 18. She fired a shot in pass Hicks for the second goal of the game for the Tigers. The clock wound down and Napavine took home the 2-0 victory and snapped the Loggers win streak.
