(Olympia, WA) 3rd place was in the balance Tuesday night at a rainy Ingersoll Stadium where the 7-2-1 home Olympia Bears hosted the 7-1-2 South Kitsap Wolves. The winner would clinch 3rd place and position themselves for a chance to be seeded into the top 8 of the district tournament that would guarantee at least a home opening round match.

It was senior night for the Bears and they were celebrated after the match.

From the opening kick the Bears controlled the time of possession and fired multiple shots keeping Wolves keeper Marissa Henry exceptionally busy.

Mika Meconi broke free and fired in the 14th minute but Henry knocked it down denying the Bears.  Olympia was coming right back at the Wolves with another attack and fired an outside shot that Henry had the ball  slip through her hands but the Bears could not find the back of the net.

Olympia would continue to dominate possession and fired shot after shot at Henry but she held firm with assistance from the back line.

The Bears could have easily been frustrated as  they could not put a goal on the board despite multiple opportunities. Olympia dug in one more time in stoppage time with another attack and shot on goal. Henry punched the ball out but it ended up right in front of Hazel Emmans who then powered it in just before time expired.

Halftime Olympia 1 South Kitsap 0

As the 2nd half got underway, it was more of the same and the Bears didn’t waste time adding to their lead when Avery Draper found Malia Satre who popped in the 2nd goal of the night to push their lead to 2-0.

The Wolves had a great opportunity in the 47th with a free kick and laid it right on frame but Olympia keeper Esther Pearson knocked it down to record the save.

The floodgates then opened for Olympia when in the 50th minute Malia Satre powered in the 3rd goal for the Bears. 5 minutes later a foul in the in box earned the Bears a P-K and Draper placed it to the left of Henry to push their advantage to 4-0.

In the 60th minute Meconi broke free, got into a one-on-one with Henry and punched it in for a 5-0 lead.

The final goal of the night came in stoppage time when Draper sent a pass into the 18 yard box and Abby Carter finished with authority to put a seal on the win.

Final Olympia 6 South Kitsap 0

The Sumner Holiday Inn MVP of the game award went to Avery Draper with 2 assists and a goal on the night. Malia Satre was in the running with a brace in the match. The Olympia back line also played great throughout the match setting up several offside traps.

Marissa Henry played very well in goal for South Kitsap without her this game would have gotten out of hand much sooner.
