HS Football: WF West finishes strong with Shutout win at Black Hills

(Tumwater, WA) In the only EVCO 2a finale on Thursday, it was an important game for the visiting WF West Bearcats. Even though if they lost to Black Hills they would still clinch 2nd place, however a loss would likely drop them out of the top 16 and give them a road game in next week’s round of 32. For Black Hills the game was a chance to finish strong and keep up the momentum of turning the program around.

The Bearcats were not messing around though and quickly put distance between them and the Wolves. Miles Martin got things with a 12 yard TD run to finish off their opening drive and take a 7-0 lead.

Both teams had a little bit of fumble-itis as they would turn the ball over to each other. WF West on their 4th drive of the 1st quarter when QB Wyatt Hoffman found Jalen Amoroso for 6 to push their lead to 14-0. The Bearcats kept the pressure on with Martin scoring for the 2nd time on the next WFW drive with a 1 yard plunge.

The Bearcats would end the half scoring on the final play with a 16 yard touchdown strike from Hoffman to Hiroto Smaciarz and they led 28-0 at the break.

The Wolves just couldn’t get any offense going and could not get back in the game. Meantime, the Bearcats added a 1 yard QB sneak from Hoffman capping off a 90 yard drive for a 34-0 lead after 3 and pushed one more in the 4th on a 10 yard TD run from Kade Mahoric for the final 41-0 score.

The win gives WF West a final record of 3-1 in league play and 7-2 for the season. They held in the top 16 of the RPI at #11 which should give them a home game next week in the round of 32.

Black Hills finishes the season 1-3 and 2-7 overall.

The Thorbeckes MVP of the game award went to Bearcat QB Wyatt Hoffman who finished the night with 146 yards passing with 2 TD’s and 51 yards rushing and score.
