W.F. West 75, Black Hills 27
Another 2A EvCo matchup transpired as the W.F. West Bearcats faced the Black Hills Wolves at home. A rivalry game between the two schools that W.F. West has had control of in recent years. This game was no different for the Bearcats. From the tipoff, they were locked and loaded and put the pressure on the Wolves early. After getting a comfortable lead, they never looked back and took home the win and maintained first place in the 2A EvCo
From the jump, the Bearcats got into a rhythm with their half-court offense and smothering defense. In the first half of the first quarter, the Wolves did hang in there and exchanged scores well with Chehalis, and even had a two-point lead at one point. Slowly but surely, though, W.F. West started to climb back and sneak away with a lead of its own. Dilyn Boeck, now a 1,000-point scorer, got off to a great start with a nice pull-up jumper in what would be a great game for her.
One of the biggest keys to the Bearcats’ success was their offensive rebounding in the first half and their outstanding zone defense that led to many forced turnovers. Giving second-chance opportunities to a team like W.F. West will not go over too well, and they did a great job of crashing the boards all night. The defense, as mentioned, was superb, and it seemed like they got their hand in every passing lane all night.
With the dominant defense and the scoring prowess of the team, they ran away with the lead and never looked back. Joy Cushman, Dilyn Boeck, and Kaitlyn Chloupek all had double-digit scoring nights. Right behind them were Izzy Teeters and Mallory Gaskill with eight points. All around domination, with everyone seemingly getting a piece of the pie. W.F. West is now 8-4 and 2-0 in league, sitting at the top of the 2A EvCo. Black Hills will fall to 7-6 and 0-2 in league on the season.
