PUYALLUP, WASH
Laney Weaver scored a game high 22 points, and the Puyallup Vikings leaped to an early lead en route to a 53-29 win.
The victory puts Puyallup in a tie with Rogers for the 2nd place spot in the SPSL North at 7-3. Spanaway Lake with the loss falls into a three-way tie for the top spot in the SPSL South at 7-3.
The matchup was touted as a clash of two teams very familiar with each other. Spanaway Lake Head Coach Benito Richardson served as an AAU coach for the majority of the players on the floor for both Puyallup and Spanaway Lake.
Quarter number one was filled with defense. Puyallup Head Coach Alec Elliott instituted a press which led to Spanaway Lake to struggle to find an offensive rhythm. On the offensive side of the ball for the Vikings, Laney Weaver highlighted the first quarter with scoring eight. Puyallup led 15-7 after one quarter.
Puyallup’s defense continued to turn up the heat in the second quarter. The Vikings on a 14-2 run to begin period. Chloe Gage and Laney Weaver combined for 10 of Puyallup’s 14 points in the quarter.
Puyallup led 29-12 at the half. Although the scoreboard appeared lopsided for Spanaway Lake, the Sentinels offense constructed offensive sets well, with exception to the most important part of the game, score.
Chloe Gage scored seven in the second half to further pad the Puyallup lead. Isabel Ostrander and Adriana Adams put on an exhibit of defense in the game, paving Puyallup to an important victory.
