Napavine 37, Adna 34
(Adna, WA) When Napavine and Adna square off fireworks are bound to explode and they did again Wednesday night. The offenses weren’t pretty but gritty defense was on full display for both teams. They battled to an 8-8 tie after 1 and 17-17 push at the half. Hayden Kaut led the Tigers at that point with 7 but she also picked up 3 fouls and was on the bench for quite some time in the 2nd quarter.
Alyssa Carroll led the Pirates with a devastating inside game hitting for 9 of her 13 points and was more than 50% of Adna’s offense in the opening 16 minutes. She was again brilliant on the boards.
Napavine led 8-1 in the 1st before Adna countered with a 7-0 run. The Tigers would again pull ahead by 7 in the 3rd only to see the Pirates storming back once again. Late in the 4th quarter McKenna Torrey hit a huge 3 to pull within 1 trailing 30-29.
The Tigers Sophia Bittner then popped a 3 to push the lead back to 4 33-29 when Torrey answered again almost immediately with another 3. Torrey finished with a game high 15. Bittner had 3 huge long balls for 9 points. The Tigers also got great production off the bench from Ava Ondong who scored 8 points.
Adna had their chances but Napavine did not give in and held off the Pirates to secure a huge Central 2B league win.
Standings and what’s next?
The Napavine Tigers push their Central 2B league record to 2-0 and improve on the season to 9-4. The Tigers next game on Friday isn’t going to be any easier when they host Toutle Lake.

Thorbeckes MVP
Our Thorbeckes MVP award always goes to a player on the winning team and in this one it came down to two non-starters. Ava Ondon camer off the bench when Hayden Kaut got into early foul trouble and knocked down 8 points with several rebounds. But Sophia Bittner gave the Tigers a little offensive surge with 9 points all from behind the arc including a late 3 that gave the Tigers a key 4 point lead late in the game. For her efforts Sophia Bittner is our Thorbeckes MVP of the game.
