#17 Saint Martin’s Saints 84, Simon Fraser Redleafs 61

(Lacey, WA) The Saint Martin’s Saints were looking to set program history once again by winning their 12th straight game. The Simon Fraser Redleafs stood in their way in another GNAC matchup.

Simon Fraser jumped out to a 13-7 lead, trying to spoil a potentially historic night at Marcus Pavilion. The Saints battled back, as Dae’Kwon Watson drilled a three to give them a 23-20 lead. Saint Martin’s used an 8-0 run to force the Redleafs to take a timeout with under four minutes left in the half. Saint Martin’s built a 43-33 lead at the halftime break with Watson putting up 16 points in the first 20 minutes. Saint Martin’s went on an 11-2 run to go up 54-37 four minutes into the second half. Saint Martin’s continued to pull away in the second half and would go on to win 84-61.

The former Auburn Trojans in Kaden Hansen and Dae’Kwon Watson each scored 20 points, and both had six assists, with Hansen adding three steals. Pablo Navarro had another brilliant night off the bench, with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Anthony Simo had nine points, 10 rebounds, six of which were offensive boards.

The Saints took advantage down low, outrebounding the Redleafs 47-31, and had 20 offensive boards. Saint Martin’s limited Simon Fraser to just two fast-break points and committed just nine turnovers, while forcing the Redleafs into 17 turnovers. The Saints also had a distinct advantage in points in the paint, 38-22, and points off turnovers, 22-8.

Saint Martin’s is 15-2 on the season and remains undefeated in the GNAC at 7-0. The Saints play at Central Washington on Thursday and at Northwest Nazarene on Saturday. The Saints also likely will continue to rise in the top 25 polls when they release on Tuesday.
