The Saint Martin’s Saints Softball team began the season in Conroe, Texas, with a pair of games at the First Pitch Invitational.

First, the Saints took care of business against Chadron State, taking them down 9-1 in five innings. The bats did a lot of damage for the Saints, as Haley Agena, Shelby Lawson, and Taylor Orgeles each hit home runs.

Saint Martin’s then took on two-time defending National Champions and #1 UT-Tyler. Haley Agena led off with a home run for the second time on the day to give Saint Martin’s an early 1-0 lead, and the Saints didn’t look back. Saint Martin’s used great base hitting to score in every inning but the second as the Saints took down #1 UT-Tyler 9-5.

Saint Martin’s faces Angelo State and Texas A&M International University tomorrow and St. Mary’s (TX) on Sunday to round out the First Pitch Invitational. Saint Martin’s first home games are on March 6-7 when the Saints host Western Washington in a pair of doubleheaders.
