The WIAA basketball seeding committees completed their work Sunday morning and released the 2A and 1A brackets. This is our “Yakima SunDome” category. The schedule and details are all below.
Schedule
Play-in Round
Tuesday, Feb 24
This is for the 3A and 1B classifications only where they have 20 team tournaments. Seeds 13-20 will play on the 24th with 13 vs 20, 14 vs 19 and so on. These are loser out games. The winners will then advance to play in the Regional round in another loser out contest.
State Regionals
Friday, Feb 27 and Saturday, Feb 28
In the Regional round all tournaments are down to 16. This is where seeding is important. The top 8 seeds will play each other with seeds 1-4 playing closer to their home and possibly on their home court. It’s 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5. But no one is eliminated in the top 8. The winners advance straight to day 2 (Thursday) of the State Tournament in the Quarterfinals. The losers will have to play on opening day in a loser out, winner to the quarterfinals game.
Seeds 9-16 or 9-20 depending on who wins the play-in games in the 3A and 1B tournaments will play each other in a 9 vs 16, 10 vs 15 and so on format. All the winners will move on to the State tournament on opening day (Wednesday) and play in a loser out game to try to get to the quarterfinals.

Wednesday, March 4 Opening Day
All games are winners to quarterfinals, losers out.
Thursday, March 5 Quarterfinals
No one is out on Thursday, winners move onto the Semifinals and losers drop into the consolation bracket.
Friday, March 6 Semifinals
Winners Bracket: Semifinal winners to the Championship game, losers to the 3rd/5th place game.
Consolation Bracket: Winners to the 4th/6th place game, losers are out and miss trophy day.
Saturday, March 7 Trophy Day!
