The first Saturday in May has been the date set aside for the greatest 2-minutes in all of sports for more than 150 years. It is Kentucky Derby Day and in 2026 it’s no different with the 152nd Run for the Roses at Churchill Downs in Kentucky.
The one day all serious and non-serious horse racing fans have an opinion. Professor DW is a huge fan of the Derby and will be offering his 3rd annual “Kentucky Derby…Derby” contest.

The Contest
The contest gives each contestant $44 in “pretend” money to wager on the Kentucky Derby. You get a $2 win, place and show bet (total $6) on your pick to win the Derby. You will get a $2 place and show bet (total $4) on your 2nd pick and a $2 show bet on your 3rd pick. You will also get a $1 exacta box bet on your top two picks total ($2), a $1 trifecta box bet on your top 3 selections ($6 bet) and a $1 superfecta box bet on your top 4 picks ($24 total) for a $44 total.
To win you simply have to win the most money on they real pay-outs on the Kentucky Derby results. There is a tie-breaker and you must guess what the $1 superfecta wager will pay. The Price is Right rule is in effect which means you cannot go over and the closest one down to the penny would win the tie-breaker.
Prizes
The winner will get a $100 cash and a day at Emerald for 10 for a $200+ value. There are cash prizes for 2nd, 3rd and 4th place as well. The top 10 finishers will get at least a pair of entries to Emerald Downs for the 2026 live racing season.
How to Enter
Click on the link below and then select 1 horse to finish 1st then scroll down and pick 1 horse to finish 2nd, then 3rd and 4th. Be sure to fill out your entry form completely. Incomplete entries are voided. The entry deadline is 2pm pacific time on Saturday, May 2 2026.
Pay Attention to this!
If you enter prior to 9am on Friday, May 1 2026, you will have 1-20 horses to choose from along with 4 also eligible entries numbered 21-24. The only way the 21-24 runners can get into the race is if one of the 1-20 scratches prior 9am on Friday May 1. So if #10 scratches then #21 would get to run if they want in. If not then #22 gets the option.
To avoid picking a runner that won’t be in the race, you can wait to enter until after the scratch deadline on Friday. We will then update the runners and take out those not entered to run on Saturday.

We do not put up the odds, jockey or any other information. It is up to you handicappers to decide who to pick or to look up any information you can find to help you decide your selections.
