PUYALLUP, WASH
The Puyallup Vikings defeated the Tahoma Bears 2-1 to advance to state for a 13th consecutive season. First half goals from Coleman Farmer and Curran Caufield proved to be enough to send Puyallup back to the dance. Tahoma’s lone goal was scored by Rocky Lauckner on a candidate for goal of the year.
The Puyallup win sets up a rematch with their fellow league rival Sumner on Tuesday at 5:30 from Art Crate Field. Tahoma with the loss faces Curtis on Tuesday in a loser out game from Sunset Stadium.
Tahoma opened the scoring when Rocky Lauckner scored from 30 yards out to put Tahoma in front 1-0 in the 16th minute. The lead did not last long as Coleman Farmer’s left winged attack off a Braylon Bowie pass leveled the match for Puyallup in the 18th minute.
Late in the half, Bowie again set up Curran Caufield who tucked the go ahead goal left side past Tahoma goalkeeper Asher Ghavam to give Puyallup a 2-1 lead. Puyallup keeper Peyton Lewis stood tall for the Vikings to preserve the win.
Our Sumner Holiday Inn Express Game MVP was Peyton Lewis who closed the door on Tahoma in the second half to come away with the win.
