(Richland, WA) Last week, the USGA held a Local Qualifier for the 126th U.S. Open at Meadow Springs Country Club. There were five spots available for the field to advance to Final Qualifying. The players advancing from Final Qualifying will make the 126th U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York.
The medalist was Bremerton’s Conner Robbins, who shot a five-under 67. Robbins had one blemish on the scorecard, with a bogey on the fifth hole, but more than made up for it with birdies on the first, third, 12th, and 16th holes. Robbins eagled the par 5, 10th hole to add to his medal earning day. Canada’s Aidan Schumer finished one shot behind Robbins, with a four-under 68. Schumer had a pair of two-under 34s on the front and back nines to move through. Three amateurs tied for third with three-under rounds of 69. Brock Maulding from Lake Tapps, Jacob Kang from Mill Creek, and Jayden Lizama from Elk Grove, California, all tied for third to snag the final three spots.
Canada’s Wyatt Brook (a) ended up as the first alternate, and Nick Ennis (a) from Everett was the second alternate, with both players shooting two-under rounds of 70.
