Bishop Blanchet 2 Silas 2 in Regulation
The Bears struck first on a clean up goal by Kaidin Skipper in the 13th minute. Bishop Blanchet would add to their lead in the 23rd on a
corner kick taken by Skipper. The corner kick got the ball into the edge of the 6 yard box and a crashing in RJ McGrew headed the ball home for the 2-0 lead. Silas answered with a corner of their own in the 27th taken by Caden Grant. The junior midfielder found a similar spot just outside of the 6 and John Cleveland got the Rams on the board. The first half ended with Bishop Blanchet leading Silas 2-1.
The 2nd half started off with a bang. A foul by Silas in the penalty area led to a penalty kick in the 42nd minute. Kaidin Skipper took the kick and Aiden Zawilski dove to the left to make the save and keep the score 2-1. Both teams played the next 36 minutes at an incredible pace but couldn’t find the back of the net. Until a foul in stoppage time just outside the Bears 18 yard box gave Silas a free kick in a dangerous spot. Caden Grant took the kick and put it on frame but Ashton Mazza pushed the shot wide of goal. Silas senior forward Yusuf Mousa was there for the rebound and late equalizer to force overtime.
Bishop Blanchet 3 Silas 2 2OT
Silas had a chance in the first overtime on a corner kick that just missed a Ram in the penalty area. That was the best attempt of the first overtime and the teams switched sides of the field. Late in the 2nd overtime Kaidin Skipper sent a pass through Silas penalty area and a streaking Bear redirected the ball just under the crossbar and took off to the sideline celebrating the Bishop Blanchet double overtime win. Kaiden Skipper was named our Sumner Holiday Inn Express MVP for his goal and 2 assists and leading the Bears to the 3A final 4.
Silas season comes to an end at 18-3-1. The Rams graduate 10 players including their 2 leading scorers in Caden Grant and Yusuf Mousa and the starting goal keeper Aiden Zawilski.
Bishop Blanchet is now 17-3-2 on the season and guarantees themselves some new hardware. The last time the Bears made the final 4 was in 2007 where they finished third. They play #2 Shorewood (20-0-1) at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup at 4:30pm on Friday May 29th.
