Eastmont advances to the State title match for the 1st time in program history. They got a strong performance from senior forward Aaron Leon who had a hat trick in the match. Scoring in 14 minute with an assist from Kodyn Flynn. The second goal was assisted by Rogelio Hernandez in the 54th minute. It looked like the hat trick was going to happen in the 69th when a foul in the Lincoln penalty area lead to a shot from the mark. Lincoln keeper Bryan Chesledon made the PK save. However just a minute later Giancarlo Cordero found a streaking Leon for the 3rd and final goal of the match in the 70th minute.
Aaron Leon was named our Sumner Holiday Inn Express MVP for the the hat trick and overall play throughout the match.
Lincoln plays in the 3rd place match at 10am against #5 Newport.
Eastmont plays in the 4A Championship match against Sumner at 4pm.
Lincoln Lynx Metro League 16-6-2
4th State Appearance 1st in 4A
Lincoln Seattle reopened in 2019 after shuttering the doors in 1981. After the reopen the Lynx started out as a 3A team and moved up to the 4A ranks after the last reclassification cycle. Lincoln has had plenty of success in boys soccer since reopening. Winning a State Title in 2023 with a 1-0 win over Ballard. They also made the 3A state tournament in 2022 and 2024 but lost in the quarterfinals both of those seasons.
Eastmont Wildcats Big 9 15-4-1
13th State Appearance
Eastmont made the 4A state tournament last season but lost to Tahoma in the first round. Coach Vidal Hurtado returns 15 players from last year’s team. Eastmont has 2 trophies in boys soccer: 4th place in 2018(4A) and 3rd place in 2012(3A). The Wildcats are now 2 wins away from a first ever boys soccer State Title.
#8 Sumner 2 #5 Newport 1 (5-4 Shootout)
The Spartans and Knights took a 0-0 draw into halftime. In the 64th minute Sumner’s Gavin Murphy found Gannon Vanderhoof in the Newport box to take the lead. Jack Merrill tied the game in the 2nd half stoppage time to force overtime. After 2 scoreless overtime periods the match went to a shootout. Caden Gould made the only save of the shootout for Sumner. The Spartans shot 2nd and went 5 for 5 with Bergen Erikson hitting the 5th shot sending them to the 4A Championship match.
The Sumner Holiday Inn Express MVP went to Caden Gould who made big saves in the 2nd half and the lone save of the shootout.
Newport will play Lincoln for 3rd place at 10am Saturday morning.
Sumner will play for their first ever Boys Soccer Title at 4pm Saturday afternoon.
Sumner Spartans SPSL 15-4-1
12th State Appearance
Sumner last made the state soccer tournament in 2024 where they lost to Sunnyside in the quarters. Although they have many appearances in the tournament this is only their 2nd final four. The Spartans finished 3rd in 2018 for their only boys soccer trophy. Is this the year the Spartans take home both Football trophies?
Newport Knights Kingco Crown-Crest 14-3-1
19th State Appearance
Newport made the state tournament last year, falling to Chiawana in the quarterfinals. The Knights return 10 players from that team. The Knights are looking for their 3rd state title and 2nd in 4A. They won it all in 2003 as a 3A team and in 1982 as a 4A team. Newport is 2-3 in championship games. They finished 2nd in 1998, 1989 and 1975. The Knights have played in the 3rd/4th place match once in 1991 where they took 4th. Can the Knight lift the trophy for the first time in 23 years?
