(Olympia, WA) Today, the Washington Senior and Super Senior Men’s Amateur Championships wrapped up from Olympia Country & Golf Club. The 54-hole Championships start a busy month full of qualifiers and other championships from around the state.
In the Senior Men’s Amateur Championship, Seattle’s Paul Hogben took home his second straight title by just one shot. In the first round, Hogben shot a two-over 74 but followed it up with the round of the tournament with a two-under 70. In the final round, Hogben shot a 73 to come away with the win at one-over par for the week. Hogben started the week with 15 holes without a bogey and fired a four-under 32 on the first nine of his second round. Hogben didn’t record a birdie on the first nine of the final round but paired two bogeys with two birdies in the final nine holes.
In solo second place, Mike Kennedy from North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, was one shot behind Hogben after shooting rounds of 72, 73, and 73 for a week of two-over. Kennedy’s best stretch of the tournament was in the second round, when he birdied the sixth through ninth holes to shoot a three-under 33. Carnation’s Michael Swingle took third at three-over with rounds of 72, 70, and 77. Rounding out the top five were three players tied for fourth with Bellevue’s Tom Brandes, Soap Lake’s Larry Redfield, and Surrey, British Columbia, Canada’s Andrew Pinette, all at five-over par for the week.
