(Auburn, WA) 7 races were on the schedule for a Fabulous Friday night. The marquee race was the final leg of the Daffodil Sweet Sprint series for older fillies and mares. Front speed was tough to beat on Friday night so jockey Alex Cruz sent Union Coach to the front and was able to fend off the challenge of Ginger in Charge down the stretch to wins both legs of the Sprint Series.

An additional $30,000 was added to the Sprint series including the Hollywood Harbor series that concluded last week. Each series had $6,000 enhancement in round one, in the final two rounds another $8,000 was added to the purses and each series points leader got a $1,000 bonus check. Horse owner and NW racing supporter Jody Peetze added the additional money for the series.

The Track Wire

From the Saddle

A lot of favorites on Friday night and a couple of riders doubling up. Leading rider Silvio Amador took the opening Daily Double and Alex Cruz won a pair including the Daffodil Sweet race. 

2nd leading rider Kevin Krigger nearly doubled after winning the 3rd race he got caught on the wire in the 6th race when Adrian Castellanos got Can’tdealwithit to line a neck better in the final strides. Can’tdealwithit becomes the first 4-time winner of the meet with that win and was the only winner on the night that came from far back.

Lenney Seecharan was the other rider to get a win on Friday night taking the 3rd race.

From the Barn

None of the leading trainers got a win on Friday night and 7 different conditioners found the winners circle. Winning trainers included Anne Wisdom, Scott Tubbs, Charlie Essex, Steve Henson, Faustino Patino, David Martinez and Patty Leany.

The Betting Window

The favorites were winning with the top choice in each race winning 4 times and placing 2nd 3 times so the betting favorite was part of the exacta in 100% of the races. There were 3 odds on favorite and they finished with 1 win and 2 places.

The Pick 6 paid $73.19 and although not the lowest pay of the season the 50-cent Pick 5 returned just $109. 

The longest shot of the day was Oscar Production in the 3rd at 4-1 and the $10.98 $2 win pay was the only double digit $2 win-place-show bet of the night.

5th Race Feature Race the final leg of the Daffodil Sweet Sprint Series

Union Coach capped a sweep of the Daffodil Sweet Sprint Series for older fillies and mares, leading gate to wire for a 1 ½-length victory over Ginger in Charge in 1:10.10 for six furlongs.

Ridden by Alex Cruz, the winner set splits of :22.10, :45.01, and :57.29 in rolling to her third straight win and eighth from 32 starts lifetime. Coco Patino is the winning trainer for owner Kyrie Patino.

Friday’s $20,000 purse included an $8,000 donation from an anonymous sponsor, with eligibility requiring that the horse must have started in the first leg June 26 to run in the second leg.

A 5-year-old California-bred by Coach Bob, Union Coach earned $11,000 for the victory to boost her career total to $136,463.

Ginger in Charge, Adrian Castellanos riding, took a crack at the winner through the lane but settled for second place while Nan Elizabeth, Rabble, Thirsty Nic, and Aventapp rounded out the full order of finish.

Daffodil Sweet won 10 of 24 starts in her career including two stakes and honors as the track’s top older filly or mare of 2021. Both sprint series resulted in sweeps with Roll Dem Bones taking both legs of the Hollywood Harbor and Union Coach going two for two in the Daffodil Sweet.

Miss Union ($4.74) made it two straight wins for owner Gary Williamson and trainer Steve Henson and 14 wins overall with a victory in race four. Miss Union was claimed Friday for $15,000 by trainer Debbie Peery for Carl and Debbi Seymour.

1st Race

After a late scratch, 4 broke from the gate going 6 furlongs and odds-on choice Mo Grey went straight to the front and Silvio Amador controlled the pace to get the win by more than 6 lengths. Final time was 1:10.21. Mo Grey races for Cadjockie Racing and trained by Anne Wisdom.

Fruit Lutes with Kevin Krigger ran 2nd, Rocksalot and Kiaman McGregor ran 3rd with Golden Regal under Talliyah Timentwa took 4th.

Silvio Amador on the lead connected with back-to-back wins this time pulling away with Oscar Production to an 8 1/2 length win running the mile in 1:38.78. Oscar is owned by Our Stables and trained by Scott Tubbs.

Betting favorite Rise Up and Go piloted by Kiaman McGregor was a clear 2nd, Root Beer Paul and Blake Nunnally ran 3rd with Honoring Autism with Kevin Orozco up completed the superfecta.

6 went 5 1/2 furlongs and the lead is again the place to be with 2-1 favorite Peter Flies winning every pole under the guidance of Larry Seecharan in a final time of 1:03.60. Peter Flies is owned by Dave Milburn and the trainer is Charlie Essex.

5-2 Tiz Grazen ran 2nd with Adrian Castellanos was followed by Ice Tower and Silvio Amador while Reef City and Blake Nunnally was 4th.

Staying within striking distance Miss Union surged by Kristen Lee for a clear win. Kristen Lee held 2nd, 20-1 Social Status was 3rd and 4th went to Ms Flashy Harbor and Alex Cruz.

Bobby’s Genie and Kevin Orozco ran 3rd and Coastal Girl ridden by Alex Cruz took 4th.

Alex Cruz got his 2nd win of the night aboard Kris’s Gold sitting just off the front speed of Count Dalia and Kevin Orozco. Kris’s Gold cleared Count Dalia to win by nearly 3 lengths and ran the 6 furlongs in 1:10.62. Joe and Gloria Russo were the winning owners and the training win went to Patty Leany.

Flight Ryder with Talliyah Timentwa ran 3rd, My Sweet Forza and Adrian Castellanos was 4th while capping the Super High 5 was Another Lifer and Silvio Amador.
