(Auburn, WA) It was a busy Saturdayn with Ladies Day as all the Ladies got in for free and were given an entry form to win one of 5 gift bags. Ladies day was sponsored by The Eli Sports Network and Larry the SportsCat our handicapping specialist.
There was also a special race celebrating the Cigar Race, no not the horse, the track’s cigar enthusiasts that hang out at the park decided to celebrate their crew with a raced of 12 willing participants.
We were treated to a great stretch run in the feature and the Tote Board finally lit up some BIG numbers.
The Cigar Race

There were 12 runners in the “Cigar” race with 11 colts and geldings…likely mostly geldings and one filly. The 12 competitors lined up in the starting gates and came sprinting down the 70-yard dash.
You can see the race below and first watch for #1, he takes a tumble and then the winner, John, finished the final 20 yards with his number jersey covering his face. Oh, one other rule, all of them had to run and complete the race with a cigar in their mouth.
Track favorite and fill-in announcer Deam Mazzuca broke from the 9 hole and although did not win, put in an excellent effort!

From the Saddle

Leading rider Silvio Amador posted his 4th consecutive double win day and held his advantage over defending Champ Kevin Krigger. Amador was set to add to his lead until Krigger doubled winning the last two races. Amador leads 39-33.
Adrian Castellanos is currently 3rd with 28 wins and had a pair of 2nds Saturday, Blake Nunnally holds 4th picking up a win on Saturday pushing his total to 22. Frank Alvarado added another victory to move into 5th with 13 wins, Karlo Lopez who is out with a shoulder injury is next with 11 and Alex Cruz got his 3rd win this week is 6th overall with 10 wins.
Apprentice Talliyah Timentwa picked up her 3rd win on the big 34-1 longshot in the 4th race.
From the Barn

There’s a 3-way tie for the trainer lead and Tim McCanna struck first in the 2nd race with Janey. Howie Gibson then took the 3rd and 5th races and those two pulled into a tie with Jorge Rosales. Blaine Wright is right behind with 13, Tom Wenzel is 5th with 11 and 6th Frank Lucarelli has 10.
Wright leads in the critical category of earnings with Wenzel and Howie Gibson right behind in 2nd and 3rd.
Other conditioners scoring on Saturday included Scott Tubbs, Elodio Madrigal and Debbie Peery.
The final trainer was Dan Markle who was behind the winner of 34-1 Charlie Neal. Charlie hadn’t run since he was a 2-year-old at Pleasanton in 2024. He had an injury and owners Sue and Tim Spooner told Markle to take his time in getting him right. Boy did he have Charlie ready to run after being off for about 20 months.
The Betting Window

It finally happened! A real longshot won a race. 34-1 Charlie Neal edged out 2-1 Midnight Tiger to win the 4th race. A field of 10 and Charlie paid a season high $70.14. 2-1 Midnight Tiger was 2nd, 19-1 Tiz Dynamic was 3rd and 33-1 Haka ran 4th.
Believe it or not that result triggered onlyb one other high pay for the season which was the 10-cent superfecta returning a whopping $2,351.43 or $23,514.30 for the $1 bet.
The $2 place and shows were well under the season highs as was miraculously the trifecta even exacta. It very well derailed the pick 6 as only 5 cashed for $24 and the carryover to tomorrow is just short of 8k.
Other big pays included the first two Pick 4’s with one over $600 and the 2nd more than $1,600 and the Pick 5 of a tad over $2,400.
Let’s get to the re-caps!
6th Race Feature Race
In one of the greatest battles of the season, Cap It Daddy turned the tables on Chuckanut Bay and scored a half-length victory in Saturday’s $14,000 Olympic Eagle Purse for 3-year-olds and up at Emerald Downs.
With Silvio Amador at the controls, Cap It Daddy ran 6 ½ furlongs in 1:14.56—fastest of the meet—and paid $4.24 as second choice in the field of six. Elodio Madrigal is the winning trainer for Cold Boy Stables.
The race was a virtual two-horse battle from gate to wire, with Cap It Daddy from the inside and Chuckanut Bay dueling through fractions of :22.86, :45.02, and 1:08.24, and less than a length separating the speedsters throughout.
In two previous matchups this season—May 23 and June 27—Chuckanut Bay prevailed while Cap It Daddy finished a strong second in both races.
Chuckanut Bay had won six of his seven previous sprints at Emerald Downs including the fastest 6 ½ furlongs of the 2025 meeting, a 1:14.05 clocking last June.
A 4-year-old by Dads Caps, Cap It Daddy is 4-3-1 in nine career starts—all at Emerald Downs—with earnings of $44,855.
Chuckanut Bay, the 4 to 5 favorite ridden by Allyssa Morales, is 13-7-4 in 36 starts with earnings of $216,073 for Howie Gibson and Remmah Racing.
