(Renton, WA) Seahawks GM John Schneider has been wanting to add depth to the Seahawk defensive secondary and pulled the trigger signing ex-Cowboy corner Trevon Diggs after a workout with the team on Tuesday.
Diggs last played with Green Bay last season but has been a free agent all this off-season. Diggs had hoped he would end up with his brother WR Stefan Diggs who signed with the Washington Commanders earlier this month.
The Seahawks have been looking for added depth after having to let Ric Woolen go after winning the Super Bowl last season.
Seattle announced last weekend that they had come to a verbal agreement with former Detroit Lion DB Terrion Arnold. Arnold was let go by the Lions this off-season after he was arrested on several serious felony charges including kidnapping and armed robbery in Florida. Arnold denies all the allegations.
However, if Arnold is signed he will likely face NFL Commissioner Roger Goodel’s exempt list which means he could not play or practice while the league does their own investigation. He would be allowed to attend meetings and would be paid. Reports are he has agreed to the league minimum.
Seattle Head Coach Mike Macdonald has said they have done a lot of work vetting Arnold including listening to some key players and former players about Arnold’s integrity. Macdonald stated earlier they would not invest the time and make the verbal offer without a lot of input from people they trust.
Diggs is coming to Seattle and has several familiar faces already here that helped make the decision to join the Seahawks a lot easier. Diggs had played with DeMarcus Lawrence and Dante’ Fowler in Dallas and Seahawks DC Arden Durde was the defensive line coach in Dallas at that time.
Diggs is a former second-rounder out of Alabama and was named to two Pro Bowl in six years in Dallas. Diggs led the NFL with 11 interceptions in 2021. He struggled to stay on the field after suffering a torn ACL early in 2023. He has agreed to a 1-year deal but no details were released at this time.
