(Auburn, WA) It’s that time of year! Time for some 3 on 3 Hoops in the Emerald Downs parking lot. The Jim Marsh Classic is set for Saturday, August 6- Sunday, August 7. The event has hosted hundreds of teams the past several years and this year its bigger than ever with 20 different playing divisions from 2nd graders to a 40+ tournament.

The divisions are 2nd thru 9th grade based on the year of school you just completed last June for both boys and girls. A High school division, college, adult, under 6-feet tall, co-ed, wheelchair and men’s elite. You can even choose the level of competition from a more laid back recreation division to a “let’s get it on” competitive league.

So who is Jim Marsh and what’s this tournament all about? Jim Marsh is a community leader who has coached and mentored thousands of young people through basketball as well as his work as a high school select and college-level basketball coach, as the Director of Jammin’ Hoop Camps, and as the now-retired President of Mentoring Works Washington. Jim is also is a champion for Parkinson’s awareness, as he is living with Parkinson’s and is very involved in the efforts of the Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation.  Jim is also a former basketball star at USC, played for the Portland Trailblazers and was the TV color commentator for the Seattle SuperSonics for twenty years.

This tournament is also in need of volunteers doing everything from set-up, registration support, time and score keepers to clean-up. Time and score keepers are not responsible for administering the games there will be referees at each game. If you’d like to volunteer here is the link.

For those ready to lace them up and compete the cost is $120 or $40 each for a team of 3, if you choose to have a sub and 4th player it’s only $30 each. Everyone gets a T-Shirt and you are guaranteed to play 3 games. Champions of each bracket also get Championship T-Shirts.

There will be plenty to do in between games with live horse racing just inside beginning at 2pm on both days and all participants get free admission. There will be a food truck in the parking lot for the tournament, a pancake breakfast, music will be playing during the games there will also be a 3-point shoot-out contest and free combine testing of speed, agility and vertical jump measurements. Plus some special guests from the NBA will attend and watch the action.
