Black Hills 3, Montesano 0 (25-12, 25-6, 25-16)

(Tumwater, WA) The Black Hills Wolves were coming off a tough 3-2 loss from Tuesday night to North Thurston when they welcomed the Montesano Bulldogs into the Wolf Den Wednesday night. The Wolves clearly worked out their 1st game jitters while the Bulldogs were opening their season and had to work through their opening night uneasiness.

Unfortunately for Monte they never really did until the 3rd set where they looked more in synch but still could not slow down a tough Wolves squad. In the 1st set both teams battled back and forth with no clear advantage until the Wolves Alex Loveless reeled off 3 points at the service line followed by a 4 point run  from Ava Bauer and finishing off the set as Black Hills simply pulled away for the dominant win was Payton Childers for the 25-12 final.

Black Hills used that momentum to get a huge advantage in the 2nd set 6-0 to start and just added chunks of points pushing the lead to 10-2, then 17-4 before running off a 25-6 dominate win and took a 2-0 lead forcing a must win for the Bulldogs.

In set 3 Montesano could not force a 4th set but they played their best set of the night and likely gave head coach Pat Pace some good things to build on while working on the shortcomings. In the 3rd set there was more communication and some excellent play from Ashlyn Devereaux, Karissa Otterstetter, Kylie Wisdom and Addie Winter.

Black Hills coach Paige Walker was very pleased with how her team bounced back in just 1 day. Walker says all the things they struggled with communication, unforced errors and positioning they worked to fix and came out with a strong performance to even their record to 1-1.

Payton Childers

The Wolves had strong performances from Payton Childers, Alex Loveless, Ava Bauer, Lily Bauer and Ashley Harris. It was a tough decision but our Thorbeckes MVP of the game went to Payton Childers. The Wolves are 1-1 and will next play Castle Rock in another non-league match next Tuesday at home.

Montesano begins the season 0-1 but will have a chance to even that record on Thursday night with another road trip this time to Vancouver to face King’s Way Christian.
