(Renton, WA) The Seattle Seahawks announced today they have extended defensive tackle to a 3-year extension worth 90-million dollars. This will make Williams one of the highest paid tackles in the league.
Seattle acquired Williams in a midseason trade with the New York Giants in October 2023, giving up a 2024 second-round pick and a 2025 fifth rounder.
Last season was Williams’ 11th season in the NFL. He played a huge part of the dominating defense Seattle used to propel them to their 2nd Super Bowl Championship. Williams was voted the NFL’s best defensive tackle by league executives, scouts and coaches for last year.
Williams came into the league as a New York Jet then played for the Giants before heading West to Seattle where he had the ultimate season. After 11 years and getting as Super Bowl Championship for many it may have been the perfect exit ramp, but Williams made it clear he wasn’t done.
General Manager John Schneider and Head Coach Mike Macdonald weren’t ready for him to leave either. Schneider has been working on this deal all off season and everything came together on Thursday.
Williams signed the 3-year extension for 90-million dollars and includes a reported 56-million guaranteed.
Williams said he believed right from the beginning that Seattle was the place he needed to saying, “When I first signed here with John (Schneider) and Coach Mike (Macdonald)’s first year, we had a vision for the team, and I feel like we still have a lot more to accomplish. I’m glad I’m able to be a part of what we’re going to do moving forward. I’m glad that I have respect and appreciation from the whole organization for them to want me to continue my career here.”
Seattle will wrap up their preseason schedule tomorrow night in Kansas City and then get set for their opener which will be the first game of the entire NFL regular season on Wednesday, September 9th when they host New England in a re-match of last year’s Super Bowl.
