The Lakes Lancers and Spanaway Sentinels Lake girls volleyball teams are off to great starts in 2022, with the Lancers 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Pierce County League, while the Sentinels are 5-1 and 4-0 in the PCL. One of these teams will lose for the first time in PCL play this season as they face off at Lakes High School on Monday night. Lakes won both meetings with Spanaway Lakes last season in two close matches.

Spanaway Lake lost their first match of the season in the season opener to Rogers, but has bounced back for 4-straight victories including an upset of PCL pre-season favorite Silas 3-2 on Friday. The Lancers have won 3 straight matches after losing the season opener to Timberline, and Lakes has also beaten Silas 3-2 in their match last Tuesday. Elizabeth Filliaga had a team high 17 kills in the huge win over the rams and Marley Alefaio had 34 total blocks in the match as well.

For Spanaway Lake, Lema Fuamatu is having a very good season so far as she leads the Sentinels in total kills with 47, and a team high 11 in the win over Silas on Friday. Tanumaleu Fuamatu leads SL in digs and assists but can also create offense as well.

When looking at the series history between these two programs, Lakes won both meetings against Spanaway Lake in close matches, taking one 3-2 and the other 3-1 and will be looking to avenge those losses and snap the two match losing skid to the Lancers. Prior to last season, Spanaway Lake won 4 straight in the series.
