Boys Hoops: Tenino pulls away from Montesano to open EVCO 1A league play

(Tenino, WA) The EVCO 1A league play got underway Tuesday night and the Tenino Beavers finished with a strong 2nd half to pull away from the 9-1 Montesano Bulldogs for a comfortable 13 point win.

Monte came out firing building a 12-3 lead with about 2:30 to play in the 1st quarter but the Beavers rallied back to tie it at 14-14. The 2 teams would never get more than 3 points from each other and Montesano went to the break with a 1-point, 28-27 lead.

Tenino surged in the 3rd quarter with a 16-8 run led by Jaxon Gore’s 2 3-balls and a nifty assist to Noah Schow and the Beavers led 43-36. Tenino kept the pressure on with a well rounded effort to pull away even more for the 13 point win outscoring the Bulldogs 32-18 in the 2nd half.

3 Beavers finished in double figs with Schow leading the way with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Jack Burkhardt also double-doubled with 14 points and 13 boards and 2 blocks. Austin Gonia had 12 points, 10 in the 2nd half with 7 boards. Also scoring for the Beavers was Will Feltus with 7 along with 5 assists, Gore had 6 both from behind the arc, Kaidon Lindholm had 4 and Cody Strawn with 1.

Leading the Bulldogs was Tyce Peterson with 15, Gabe Bodwell with 13 and Delon Chan with 9. Finishing the scoring for Montesano was Soren Cobb with and with 2 points were Peyton Damasiewicz, Camden Taylor and Carter Crites.

Tenino is now 8-4 on the year and 1-0 in league play and will host Hoquiam on Thursday. Montesano drops to 9-2 overall and 0-1 in EVCO play and look to get back in the win column on Thursday when they host Eatonville.
