Boys Soccer: Centralia wins big over Rochester

(Centralia, WA) It took some time for the Tigers to get on the board but once they did there was no stopping them over the Rochester Warriors. The 1st goal was set up off a free kick about 5 yards from the top of the box and Alan Vasquez lined up the shot and fired it to the upper right side past Warriors keeper Ezra Aliff in the 24th. Aliff was also challenged with the setting sun which was right in his line of sight making it difficult to follow the flight of the kick.

10-minutes later the Tigers got goal #2 when Simba Osman dribbled across the field and fired to the near corner slipping in just inside the post. Centralia would score their 3rd goal in the 37th when Sammy Carpio sharply booted a shot right at Aliff who got down on the ball but it skipped in and bounced off and over Aliff into the goal.

Carpio wasn’t finished getting things started in the 2nd half on a free kick in the 42nd hitting a rocket that bent away from Aliff into the left side of the goal for a 4-0 lead and capping a 4 goal outburst over just 18 minutes.

The Tigers capped the scoring as Carpio was going after a hat trick but it bounced out only to have freshman reserve Gabriel Cruz swooped in and clean it up for the 5-0 final.

Other Tigers with big efforts starts with keeper Alejandro Arevald with 6 saves incuding a couple of big saves in the 1st half keeping it a clean sheet and the zero on the board. Antonio Almanza, Fernando Lopez and Angel Rojas all had solid performances.

It was a frustrating loss for the Warriors as they had their chances early in the match but couldn’t finish on several attacks. Despite that Rochester got good work from Sean Ivy, Antonio Figueroa and Justin Gocher.

Centralia improves to 5-3 in EVCO 2A league play and 6-4 overall and Rochester drops to 5-4 in league and 5-6 for the season. Our NW Team of Better Homes and Garden Realty, Summit Funding and Country Insurance “Takin’ it to the House” Play of the Game went to Simba Osman’s goal. The Thorbeckes MVP of the Game was Sammy Carpio.
