Sammamish Redhawks –     3/6/1
Liberty (Renton) Patriots – 5/9/0

(Bellevue, WA) Both sides played very well against the top two seeds on Saturday in the KingCo Semifinals. However, with both Sammamish and Liberty losing, that sent the two sides to a loser out game, with the winner heading to a winner to State, loser out game on Friday. Both teams’ backs were against the wall, and each side gave it their all in a great ballgame.

In the first inning, Sammamish’s Kolin Jaster got on with a one-out single. In the next at-bat, Josh Perez hammered an RBI triple to give the Redhawks an early 1-0 lead. Perez scored on a wild pitch with two outs to give Sammamish a 2-0 lead after the top of the first. In the bottom of the first, Sam Bell led off for Liberty and got on with a single. Jackson Bell knocked him in with an RBI double to make it 2-1. Connor Mayer, with one out, flew out to shallow right, but Jackson Bell showcased his speed to get home safely and tie the game at 2-2.

Both sides were held scoreless in the second inning, and in the third Kolin Jaster got on with another single. He stole second to put himself in scoring position, and Reid Baum drove him in with an RBI single to make it 3-2 with Sammamish on top. Liberty responded, as Colton Hollerbach led off the bottom of the third with a single. Sam Bell followed up with a single of his own, and Ryan Boehm drove in Hollerbach with an RBI single. The game was tied 3-3 through three innings.

In the fourth inning, Sammamish had a runner in scoring position but couldn’t score. In the bottom of the inning, Sammamish got back-to-back strikeouts from pitcher Dayne Castillo. Lukas Fluegge singled to keep the inning going, and Hollerbach got on with a walk. Sam Bell drove them both in with a two-RBI triple to give Liberty a 5-3 lead. Castillo got out of the inning with his third strikeout of the inning, and sixth of the game.

In the fifth inning, Ozzy Turner got on with a walk for Sammamish, and Kolin Jaster singled again to get a pair of base runners on for the Redhawks. Turner made it to third, but Liberty’s Konner Erickson, who came out of the bullpen in the inning, got out of the jam to keep the Patriots’ two-run lead. Parker Heeter doubled in the bottom of the inning, but Sammamish held Liberty scoreless. Neither team scored in the sixth, and in the seventh, Lincoln Castillo drew a walk and was moved over to third, but Erickson got back-to-back outs to secure a 5-3 win for Liberty.

With the win, Liberty will face Bellevue in a winner to State, loser out game at 4 PM, a game that the Eli Sports Network will be streaming. Sammamish’s season comes to a close with a record of 18-5.

Our Thorbeckes Game MVP went to Liberty’s Sam Bell. Bell went 3-4, had two singles, a two-RBI triple, scored once, and was fantastic defensively at shortstop. His all-around great performance helped Liberty keep their season going and will give the Patriots a shot at going to State.
