(Scottsdale, AZ) The 44th U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship will tee off from Troon Country Club and Troon North Golf Club on Saturday. Four players who reside in Washington will take part in the championship. The quartet qualified for the championship at various locations this summer to get the opportunity to compete with the nation’s best amateurs aged 25 and beyond.
The winner of the championship receives a gold medal, the Robert T. Jones Jr. Memorial Trophy for one year, an exemption into the 2026 U.S. Open, exemptions from qualifying for the next 10 Mid-Amateurs and the next two U.S. Amateurs, and a likely invitation to the 2026 Masters, provided they remain an amateur. Saturday and Sunday are 18 holes of stroke play each, with the field being cut to 64 players for match play. The Round of 64 starts Monday, and the 36-hole Championship Match takes place a week from today. The 2031 U.S. Mid-Amateur will be held at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Oregon, which hosted this year’s PNGA Men’s Amateur Championship.
Seattle’s Paul Mitzel qualified as a medalist with two other players at The Home Course in DuPont last month. Mitzel shot a three-under round of 69 to take co-medalist honors. Mitzel will tee off bright and early at 7:01 AM on Saturday at Troon North Golf Club. Jake Utley, also from Seattle, was at DuPont but was the first alternate after firing a round of 70. He was selected to head to the championship due to players who have qualified not being able to participate this week. Utley will have a lunchtime tee time of 12:23 PM and will start on the 10th hole of Troon Country Club.
Snoqualmie’s Erik Olson and Vancouver’s Austin Spicer each qualified at the OGA Golf Course qualifier in Woodburn, Oregon. The pair shot four-under rounds of 68, and the pair advanced in a playoff to secure their spots in the championship. Olson will begin his championship on Saturday morning with an 8:51 AM tee time off the 10th tee at Troon Country Club. Spicer will go off at 12:23 PM at Troon Country Club, but will go off on the first hole.
