Toledo 0, Napavine 0
(Napavine, WA) Toledo and Napavine both came into this game with the same overall record at 5-3-1 but more importantly, both were undefeated in league play. This made the game very consequential, as whoever wins remains undefeated, and the loser will drop in the rankings. If Toledo won, they would be the top two in the Central 2b. If Napavine won, they would surpass Napavine and find themselves in the top three. This game, however, did not play out as many thought it would. In what would be a back-and-forth defensive battle, neither team emerged as a winner or loser.
First Half
The first half was a little more conservative on the part of both teams. Exchanging possessions constantly through a steal or clearances. It seemed that Toledo would have the ball in their hands for five minutes, and then Napavine would clear the ball to their side for another five minutes, as this went on throughout most of the first half. There were not a lot of opportunities to try and score for either team; only a few shots on goal came from both sides that didn’t amount to much. It was pure defense out there on the field, and both squads did a great job of not putting themselves in any danger. Goalkeeper Talen Evander for the Tigers got her night started early with a couple of saves in the first half before she would explode on defense in the second. Both teams entered the half tied 0-0.
Second Half
A flipped was seemingly switched after halftime as the aggressiveness picked up immensely. Napavine controlled the ball much more in this half and made it clear that they were trying to score the moment the ball fell into their hands. Napavine had a stretch of about 10 minutes where they kept the ball near the 18. Continuously shooting on goal but the defense for Toledo was too much to over come. As the game went on, you could feel the urgency for both team because they knew this was a big game. Tensions built as time went on and with time expiring, both teams were going for broke. The defense for Napavine and Toledo was impregnable and neither team could get one in the goal as time ran out. The game ended in a tie 0-0 as both teams remain undefeated in the Central 2b league.
MVP and Stats
Our MVP of the game was Talen Evander who was the biggest game changer for the Tigers. She tallied 9 saves with many of them being very hard. Toledo had a few great opportunities to score but Evander continued to make amazing plays to hold the Riverhawks scoreless. Maya Kunkel had a good day as well, being particularly useful on throw ins for Napavine. Other notable names for the Tigers were Hayden Kaut, Hannah Fay, and Clara Fay who had productive offensive outings.
For Toledo, Aspen Cooper was flying around everywhere all night. Wherever the ball was she was sure to be there and was a menace on both sides of the ball. Kailea Lairson and Georgia Chase had good games on defense and Xtyn Norberg and Peyton Holter did very well on offense.
