(Mill Creek, WA) The USGA held a U.S. Senior Open Local Qualifier at Mill Creek Country Club. Nine players advanced to Final Qualifying, and there will be one Final Qualifying site in Washington at Oakbrook Golf & Country Club in Lakewood on May 18. From there, players will advance to the 46th U.S. Senior Open that will be held at Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio in July.

Canada’s Kendal Yonomoto took medalist honors with a four-under round of 68. Yonomoto birdied the third hole but bogeyed the seventh and double bogeyed the ninth. Yonomoto flipped a switch on the second nine, with birdies on the 10th hole, four in a row from the 13th to 16th holes, and finishing with a birdie on 18 for a six-under second nine of 30. Two shots behind him was Canada’s Matthew Daniel, who fired a two-under round of 70, anchored by four first nine birdies, including three consecutively on the seventh, eighth, and ninth holes.

Tom Brandes (a), an amateur from Bellevue, shot a one-under 71 to be one of just three players to shoot under par. Bothell’s Joel Skarbo shot an even par 72 to take fourth. Seven players shot one-over, and Canada’s Steve Wheeler (a), Blaine’s Jeff Coston, Canada’s Chad Mcadie, Orlando, Florida’s Brian Mogg, and James Corey (a) from Las Vegas, Nevada were the five players to move forward into Final Qualifying.

Keith Crimp (a) from Ellensburg is the first alternate, and Mill Creek’s David Christenson is the second alternate.
